Structure is what search engines actually crawl
Good content on a confusing site structure still underperforms, because crawlers and visitors both rely on structure to understand what matters and how pages relate to each other.
Keep the hierarchy shallow
A visitor — and a crawler — should be able to reach any important page within a few clicks from the homepage. Deep, buried pages get crawled less often and linked to less naturally.
URLs should describe, not encode
A clean, readable URL that reflects the page’s actual topic does more for both users and search visibility than a string of parameters or IDs ever will.
Internal links are structure in action
Every internal link is a vote for what’s important on a site. Linking related content deliberately — not just via a generic “related posts” widget — reinforces the topics you actually want to rank for.
